Gothicum

Gothic architecture is a style of architecture that flourished in Europe during the high and late medieval period. It evolved from Romanesque architecture and was succeeded by Renaissance architecture. Gothic architecture is characterized by its pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses.

The first great example of Gothic architecture is the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which was completed in 1260. Other notable Gothic cathedrals include the Westminster Abbey in London, the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, and the Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow.

The Gothic style was not limited to cathedrals. Many Gothic-style castles were built, including the Burgundian Castle of Dijon, the Château de Chambord in France, and the Tower of London.

The Gothic style reached its peak in the 14th and 15th centuries, and began to decline in the 16th century. Nevertheless, Gothic architecture continued to be popular until the 18th century, and there are still some Gothic-style buildings in use today.
